Paul Hunkele of Sterling Heights, Michigan, founded the Upton Base Ball Club of Sterling as an 1860 club in 2002.

  • Moved the club to Mount Clemens, Michigan and changed the name and uniform after learning of the existence of the Regular Base Ball Club of Mount Clemens in 1867 from Peter Morris’ 2003 book; Baseball Fever.
  • Member of the VBBA Rules & Customs Committee since 2000.
  • Member of the SABR 19th Century Committee.
  • Contributor to A Game of Inches and The Dickson Baseball Dictionary.
  • Retired in 2011.

Rules and Customs Committee

The VBBA Rules and Custom Committee shall conduct appropriate historical research into the way the game was played in the mid-nineteenth century and other historical eras and shall share its findings with the Association and member clubs in order to establish and improve historical authenticity. The scope of the committee shall include customs, uniforms, equipment, and conventions as well as the dissemination of and interpretation of rules.
