The modern Unions portray a squad of U.S. Army soldiers stationed in the village of Florissant in the year 1862, and who play the game in their off time from official duties. In doing so, the St. Louis Unions honor the troops who played the game during the Civil War and their contribution to baseball history. In reality, the Union Club was one of the more successful groups playing amateur base ball in St. Louis in the 1860's. The Unions are known to have won the "St. Louis Championship" three times during the 1860's. While the original Unions were not a squad of soldiers, the modern Unions are proud to carry on a team name synonymous with the beginnings of base ball in St. Louis.
